Lauren St John’s White Giraffe series has become internationally beloved. This is the perfect time to discover – or rediscover – this modern classic.
‘Lauren St John is the queen of kid’s animal fiction, and her White Giraffe series is a veritable treasure trove of classic, wild adventure. Warm, emotional, stirring and heart-stopping in equal measure!’
Ross Montgomery, author of I Am Rebel
Martine is eleven when she goes to live on a game reserve in Africa, a place where mysteries and secrets abound, where the intoxicating magic of the country casts all sorts of spells.
One lonely night, she looks out of her window and sees a young giraffe, silver tinged with cinnamon in the moonlight.
‘For a split second their eyes locked, the small sad girl and the slender young giraffe, then the sky went dark. Martine pressed her face to the window, desperate to see the white giraffe again.’
In that instant Martine knows that she is prepared to risk everything for it. The giraffe looks at her as if it is waiting…
Lauren St John grew up surrounded by horses, cats, dogs and a pet giraffe on a farm and game reserve in Zimbabwe, the inspiration for her bestselling White Giraffe and One Dollar Horse series, as well as her YA horse novel, The Glory. Dead Man’s Cove, the first in her Laura Marlin Mystery series, won the Blue Peter Book of the Year Award. Before becoming a children’s author, she worked as a journalist for The Sunday Times, writing about sports, music and spies. Along with her veterinary nursing training, it served as perfect research for her Kat Wolfe mystery series and The Snow Angel, a standalone MG novel.
A passionate conservationist, Lauren is an Ambassador for the Born Free Foundation, a patron for horse sanctuary, Mane Chance, and the founder of Authors4Oceans. When not rescuing leopards and dolphins, she is a full-time valet to her rescued, and not in the least demanding, Bengal cat, Max.
